Flying a drone in Sydney is legal, but you must follow the rules set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

Stay Below 120 Metres (400 Feet)

Your drone must not fly higher than 120 metres (400 feet) above ground level.

Keep Your Drone in Sight

Always keep your drone within your visual line of sight.

Stay at Least 30 Metres from People

Keep your drone at least 30 metres away from people who are not directly involved in your flight. Never fly over crowds, sporting events, concerts, or busy beaches.

Stay 5.5 km Away from Controlled Airports

Do not fly within 5.5 kilometres of a controlled airport if your drone weighs more than 250 grams, unless you have the required approvals.

If your drone weighs 250 grams or less, such as a DJI Mini series drone, you may fly closer to airports only if it is safe to do so and you do not enter restricted or controlled airspace.

Respect Privacy

Avoid flying over private property or recording people without their permission.

Do You Need a Licence?
